New Dodge Durango 2029: the American SUV is reborn with more power, more technology and a new era under Stellantis
The fourth generation arrives with new engines, a new platform and a fully redesigned identity.

Dodge prepares an all-new Durango for 2029
After nearly two decades without a true generational overhaul, Dodge is now working on the brand-new 2029 Durango, a model set to completely reinvent the iconic three-row SUV. The American brand has confirmed that the next generation will be built on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform, opening the door to more efficient engines, hybrid versions and even fully electric variants. It’s a major technical leap for a model that remains a cornerstone of the brand’s North American lineup.
Although the current Durango –born in 2011– has received continuous updates, including the brutal 710-hp SRT Hellcat, Dodge knows it’s time to enter a new era. One thing that won’t change is the name: the SUV will continue to be called Durango, maintaining a tradition that began in 1998. But everything else –from the chassis to the mechanical range– is on track for the most radical transformation the model has ever seen.
New platform, new engines and an electrified future
The upcoming Durango will take full advantage of the modular capabilities of the STLA Large architecture, designed to support everything from combustion engines to electric drivetrains. That’s why one of the strongest candidates for the lineup is the 3.0 Hurricane, Stellantis’ turbocharged inline-six delivering 550 hp and 531 lb-ft in its High Output configuration. A 420-hp Standard Output version is also likely, as well as the electric system from the Charger Daytona, which produces 670 hp and 627 lb-ft paired with a 100.5-kWh battery. And if Dodge aims for more accessible options, the new Hurricane 4 Turbo, with 324 hp, is not off the table.
In terms of design, the 2029 Durango will inherit the aesthetic language of the new Charger. Early renders point to a sharper, more dynamic SUV with slim headlights connected by a full-width LED bar and a rear section defined by the signature “ring of fire” taillights –a visual element that will completely modernize its presence. It’s a break from the retro feel, embracing a more futuristic and expressive look.
A staggered launch and a price tag that will keep rising
Dodge won’t officially unveil the new Durango until 2028, and the model won’t reach dealerships until 2029. The current version starts at 40,990 dollars in the U.S., but that figure is expected to rise. With global inflation, the segment’s repositioning and the adoption of the STLA platform, the 2029 Durango will likely start around 45,000 dollars. A higher price, yes –but consistent with the project’s technological ambitions.
More technology, more power, and ready for the next decade
With an all-new chassis, hybrid and electric options, and a design that breaks away from the past, the 2029 Dodge Durango is shaping up to be one of the most significant SUVs of the decade in North America. The brand wants to preserve the model’s muscular essence while adapting it to current demands: efficiency, electrification and advanced safety. If Stellantis manages to balance power, consumption and pricing, we could be looking at one of the most important launches of the year.
