New 2026 Audi A5 Sportback: More Aggressive, More Tech-Savvy, and Sharper Than Ever

By  |

With quattro all-wheel drive, MHEV plus hybrid tech, and Huawei smart driving systems, the new A5 drops the Coupé format to focus on what really matters: the driving experience.

A fastback sedan ready to dethrone SUVs

The new 2026 Audi A5 Sportback arrives with a clear mission: replace the A4 and redefine sporty elegance in a five-door fastback format. Say goodbye to the previous Coupé and Cabriolet versions—Audi is going all in on a sharper, more practical, and far more technological design. It steps directly into the ring with BMW’s 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, now that the Jaguar XE and Volvo S60 have exited the market.

Measuring 4.90 metres long, featuring a bold front end with illuminated logo and frameless windows, the A5 Sportback makes a strong visual statement. The “ducktail” rear design, OLED digital taillights, and coupe-style roofline give it a clear premium and sporty identity. Inside, Audi pushes boundaries with three digital displays (up to 14.5″) and luxury-grade materials throughout.

High-end equipment and unmatched technology

If the exterior is striking, the cabin truly impresses. The A5 Sportback boasts features like a dimmable panoramic roof, Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system with 20 speakers and 810W, heated, ventilated, and massaging electric seats with memory, and an advanced semi-autonomous driving system. Notably, this is the world’s first internal combustion car to feature Huawei’s Qiankun smart driving tech, with 32 high-precision sensors and dual self-cleaning LiDAR units—a true industry-first.

TFSI engines, quattro grip, and MHEV Plus performance

Under the hood, the base engine is a 2.0 TFSI petrol unit producing 204 hp and 340 Nm, paired with a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission. It sprints from 0–100 km/h in 7.8 seconds while returning 6.9 L/100 km. Above that sits a more powerful 2.0 TFSI version with 272 hp and 400 Nm, featuring optional quattro all-wheel drive and MHEV Plus mild hybrid technology, cutting the 0–100 km/h time to 5.6 seconds and lowering fuel consumption to 6.5 L/100 km. The chassis is tuned with ZF CDC adaptive suspension, high-performance brakes, progressive steering, and a five-link rear axle (plus decoupled double-wishbone front).

A competitive price for a future benchmark

The new 2026 Audi A5L Sportback has already launched in China, with prices starting at around €33,475 for the 204 hp TFSI S tronic variant and reaching €47,800 for the range-topping 272 hp TFSI quattro MHEV Plus model. While not cheap, these prices reflect a level of tech, equipment, and refinement rarely seen in this segment. Audi is making a statement: this car is here to set new standards among performance sedans in an era dominated by SUVs.
