Morgan and BMW: 25 Years of a Legendary Technical Alliance

By  |

The British firm celebrates its silver anniversary with the Bavarian manufacturer by gathering fourteen iconic models that define its technical evolution.

The technical partnership between both companies began in 2000 with the launch of the revolutionary Aero 8. That initial model used a 4.4-liter V8 engine, marking the start of a high-performance era. To commemorate this anniversary, Morgan gathered a lineup of fourteen of its most significant vehicles for the first time. This selection ranges from the first units displayed in Geneva to the current flagship of the range. The alliance allows for the combination of Malvern’s classic craftsmanship with the most advanced and reliable German engineering.

Mechanical Evolution and the CX Aluminum Platform

British sports cars adopted turbocharged engines and modern architectures to improve their on-road behavior. In 2019, the Plus Six debuted the CX aluminum platform developed entirely by Morgan engineers. This structure offers double the torsional rigidity while maintaining a total weight of less than 100 kilograms. Thanks to the B58 six-cylinder engine, the brand achieved previously unseen levels of comfort and power. This technical foundation also supports the exclusive Midsummer, a limited barchetta created alongside coachbuilder Pininfarina.

The Four-Cylinder Legacy and Future Vision

The Plus Four model revived the four-cylinder tradition in 2020 using BMW’s B48 engine. This mechanic fits the car’s sporting character and ensures modern efficiency for the coming years. Racing has also been key, with German engines powering the Aero 8 at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Currently, the B48 and B58 power units arrive from the Steyr plant in Austria to feed handcrafted production. Morgan confirms that this collaboration will remain the fundamental basis for its future hand-built sports cars.
