Mitsubishi Elevance Concept: A Hybrid Preview of the Future Montero

By  |

The concept SUV combines four electric motors with a carbon-neutral gasoline engine, showcasing design, innovation, and adventure in every detail.

The Mitsubishi Elevance Concept, presented at the Japan Mobility Show, could be a preview of the highly anticipated Montero-Pajero. Its straightforward front end recalls recently spotted test prototypes, while the transparent rear suicide doors give it a futuristic flair. This concept perfectly blends modern style and ruggedness, hinting at a large and adventurous SUV.

Advanced Plug-in Hybrid System

The most striking feature of the Elevance is its complex plug-in hybrid propulsion system: four electric motors work alongside a gasoline engine capable of using carbon-neutral fuel. Mitsubishi has not disclosed battery specifications, but it is expected to have enough capacity to power a trailer equipped with a kitchen and shower, reinforcing the vehicle’s adventurous and practical focus.

Digital Yet Functional Interior

The cabin balances technology and usability. It features three rows of seats accommodating six passengers in a 2+2+2 layout, with rotating front seats. The dashboard integrates three screens, including a monitor embedded in the octagonal steering wheel, while climate control is handled through a horizontal touch strip. A rotary dial between the seats allows the driver to select driving modes, complemented by physical buttons and two vertical switches, maintaining tactile control.

A Concept Combining Innovation and Adventure

The Elevance is not an extended-range EV but a conventional plug-in hybrid, with the gasoline engine driving the wheels directly. Its size and configuration support the theory that it could preview the next Montero, although Mitsubishi is known for concepts that may not reach production. Nevertheless, many of its innovations are likely to inspire future Mitsubishi models.

Looking Toward the Future

Even if this concept does not become the next Montero, the Mitsubishi Elevance demonstrates the brand’s ability to merge design, technology, and sustainability. With a focus on hybrid mobility, adventure, and functionality, this SUV points to trends that are expected to shape Mitsubishi’s upcoming vehicle launches in the coming years.
