After 42 years in a climate-controlled, dehumidified garage, a 1982 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL is finally being shown to the public. Purchased on November 30, 1982, it remained protected for over four decades, with the odometer showing just 42 kilometers, making it a true automotive time capsule.

Original Details and Impeccable Condition

This model, originally priced at £24,400 (over £87,000 today or €99,960), featured a 5-liter V8 engine with 240 HP and all the optional extras of the era: air conditioning, heated seats, ABS, leather upholstery, rear seats, and Blue Green Metallic paint. The car remains free of corrosion, with Waxoyl applied to the engine and exhaust, and retains all original factory stickers and sales documents.

An Icon That Made History

The R107, produced until 1989, was replaced by the R129 generation. While not an extremely rare model, examples in pristine condition with so few kilometers are highly valued by collectors, representing a historical piece that captures the essence of classic Mercedes-Benz vehicles.

Unique Exhibition at SLShop

The car is now at SLShop in Warwickshire, UK, where it will be displayed in a permanent climate-controlled exhibition in Stratford-upon-Avon. Sam Bailey, founder of SLShop, emphasizes that it will never be sold, describing it as “a time capsule” meant to be admired by future generations. The car will also make limited public appearances at Mercedes-Benz World.

The owner, Mr. Hough, has kept the car in exceptional condition, embodying his vision of historical preservation.
