Mazda CX-60 Turns into a Rally Car… with a Diesel Engine!
The Japanese SUV takes an unexpected leap into motorsport, embracing the power, torque, and efficiency of diesel.
The Mazda CX-60, one of the most distinctive D-segment SUVs, continues to prove that the Japanese brand is unafraid to break conventions. With its solid platform, options for rear-wheel or all-wheel drive, and a range of large-displacement engines, this model already competes with premium rivals such as the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Volvo XC60. Now, Mazda goes one step further with a truly unexpected racing version.
Introducing the MAGIC TY Mazda CX-60: a diesel-powered rally SUV
Under the name “MAGIC TY Mazda CX-60”, the Japanese automaker unveils the car competing in the XCR Sprint Cup Hokkaido, a demanding off-road event that pushes durability and handling to the limit. Visually, it’s a showstopper: finished in a striking electric blue, with black alloy wheels, contrasting mirrors and roof, plus sporty vinyl graphics that highlight its competitive DNA.
The real surprise lies under the bonnet. Instead of a petrol or plug-in hybrid engine, Mazda opts for its 3.3 SKYACTIV-D inline six-cylinder diesel, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and the i-Activ AWD all-wheel-drive system. This powertrain delivers 254 hp and 550 Nm of torque, allowing the SUV to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 219 km/h — all while maintaining an impressive 5.3 l/100 km fuel consumption, thanks to mild-hybrid technology (Eco label).

From a technical perspective, the rally-spec CX-60 is fitted with Toyo Open Country R/T tyres for maximum traction across mixed terrain. According to Mazda, the aim of this project is not only to compete but also to enhance production models, refining aspects of dynamics, comfort, and NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness). It’s a philosophy reminiscent of Formula 1, where every breakthrough on the track translates into innovation for road cars.
In the Spanish market, the Mazda CX-60 2025/2026 starts at €52,948 for the 3.3 e-SKYACTIV D RWD 200 hp version, while the 2.5 e-SKYACTIV PHEV AWD 327 hp variant begins at €56,344. With its rally debut, Mazda not only reinforces its sporting credentials, but also proves that diesel still has plenty to say when combined with technology, efficiency, and driving passion.
