Goodbye Jeep Renegade: the iconic urban SUV bows out after 11 years, leaving a big gap in Jeep’s lineup
The American brand halts production of the Renegade at the Melfi plant, closing a chapter that changed Jeep’s course in Europe.

The end of an era for the SUV that redefined Jeep
After 11 years on the market, the Jeep Renegade has officially reached the end of the road. Production at the Melfi plant in Italy has stopped, marking the farewell of a model that shared its platform with the Fiat 500X—also discontinued. This compact SUV made its mark in Europe thanks to its rugged design, practical size, and diverse powertrain range, which at one point included plug-in hybrid options and even 4×4 capability.
The Jeep that changed the brand’s identity
The Renegade wasn’t just another Jeep. It represented a turning point for the American manufacturer, previously known only for its true off-road vehicles. Moreover, this urban SUV was the first Jeep ever built outside the United States, signaling a bold global shift. Measuring just 4.24 meters in length, it combined the brand’s adventurous image with city-friendly proportions, while retaining enough off-road ability to stand out from its rivals.
Passing the torch: the Jeep Avenger steps up
With the Renegade now retired, the spotlight turns to the Jeep Avenger, a smaller model (4.08 meters long) that embodies Jeep’s new hybrid and electric strategy. In just two years, the Avenger has already racked up over 200,000 orders across Europe, proving that Jeep still knows how to adapt. A 4xe all-wheel-drive version is also available, keeping the adventurous DNA of the brand alive.
Will there be a Renegade successor?
For now, Jeep hasn’t confirmed a direct replacement. However, rumors suggest that a new SUV of similar size could arrive in 2027, based on the STLA Small platform. If it comes to life, it would be a modern reinterpretation of the Renegade’s urban spirit—more advanced, more efficient, and fully electrified.
The Renegade’s lasting legacy
The Jeep Renegade didn’t just expand the brand’s lineup—it brought Jeep’s adventurous spirit to urban and younger drivers, becoming an icon within its class. Its disappearance marks the end of a key era but also the beginning of a new one, led by the Avenger and the Compass, Jeep’s main forces in Europe. Much like in Formula 1, Jeep knows exactly when to evolve its strategy to stay ahead of the race.
