Genesis G90 Wingback: the luxury estate that challenges the SUV era and redefines sporty elegance

By  |

The G90 Wingback Concept proves that a large estate car can be more desirable than any SUV.

In a market dominated by SUVs, Genesis delivers a clear and provocative message: not everything has to be a crossover. The G90 Wingback Concept is the proof. This spectacular full-size estate, still at concept stage, presents itself as an emotional, elegant and sporty alternative to the growing saturation of SUVs. As Luc Donckerwolke, Chief Creative Officer of Genesis, states, “this is the moment when other types of cars will become attractive again.”

Based on the G90 luxury sedan, the Wingback Concept makes a powerful statement from every angle. With an overall length of 5.1 metres and a 3.2-metre wheelbase, its silhouette blends majestic proportions with a dynamic presence rarely seen in an estate car. The 22-inch alloy wheels and sophisticated aerodynamics, highlighted by a dual rear spoiler – an upper wing and a lower ducktail – reinforce its refined yet performance-oriented character.

Family elegance with Magma DNA

Far from being a conventional wagon, the G90 Wingback belongs to the Magma universe, Genesis’ high-performance sub-brand. This is a crucial detail, as it defines the car’s philosophy: elevated sportiness, artisanal luxury and strong emotional appeal. The twin rear exhaust outlets also confirm the presence of an internal combustion engine under the bonnet – a nod to driving purists in an increasingly electrified era – although Genesis has not disclosed any power or performance figures.

The interior fully supports this philosophy. Sporty seats with generous lateral bolstering sit within a cabin where every material choice and design detail conveys exclusivity. Here, Genesis showcases its premium design expertise, delivering an environment that combines the comfort of a flagship luxury saloon with the sensations of a high-performance grand tourer.

For now, the Genesis G90 Wingback remains a design study, but far from an isolated one. The brand has already confirmed its intention to expand the Magma programme over the coming years with a diverse range of body styles. If this concept is a sign of what lies ahead, the future of luxury motoring – including in Spain, where Genesis is preparing its official market launch – may become far more exciting than an endless procession of SUVs.
