Nissan Vanette 2026: the classic van makes a comeback with modern design, 129 hp and a disruptive price
Starting at around €18,000, it retains its legendary practicality and is now even offered as a camper base. The iconic Vanette never really went away.
The Nissan Vanette is deeply embedded in Spain’s collective automotive memory. Produced for years in Barcelona and a staple of daily work throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it is now back in the spotlight thanks to a modern reinterpretation that combines a low price, updated design and a robust 129-horsepower powertrain. While in Europe Nissan focuses on Renault-derived vans, in other regions the true successor to the Vanette has remained alive and continues to evolve.
A Vanette that never disappeared outside Europe

Beyond European borders, Nissan still markets this concept under the Urvan name in Asia and as the NV350 Urvan in Latin America. In countries such as the Philippines and Mexico, this compact van remains a practical, affordable and highly versatile solution. In the Philippine market, for instance, prices start at 1,260,000 pesos (around €18,150), placing it among the most accessible vehicles in its segment.
The range is structured around three versions–Cargo, Premium and Standard–designed to cover professional use, mixed applications and passenger transport. This broad approach echoes the original Vanette philosophy, offering multiple solutions from a single platform. There is even a minibus configuration with up to 13 seats, making it ideal for shuttle services or group transport.
From a mechanical standpoint, the Nissan Urvan prioritises durability over complexity. It is powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel engine delivering 129 hp and 356 Nm of torque, figures that ensure solid performance even under heavy loads. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission, a sensible setup for markets where reliability is paramount.
One of its most appealing qualities is its potential as a camper base. Thanks to its generous interior space and competitive price, it represents an excellent foundation for camper conversions. Nissan itself has explored this idea with concepts such as the Caravan Mountain Base Concept. In doing so, the modern Vanette proves that its DNA remains intact: a simple, tough and versatile van, fully capable of adapting to today’s needs without losing its classic essence.
