Ford Recalls More Than 255,000 Focus Models Over Engine Stall Risk
Ford has announced a major recall affecting more than 255,000 Focus vehicles in the United States after discovering a defect that could cause engines to stall unexpectedly while driving.
The recall covers 255,404 Ford Focus sedans and hatchbacks from the 2012 through 2018 model years. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the issue could leave drivers stranded and, in some cases, prevent the vehicle from restarting.
The latest action is linked to a previous recall campaign, raising concerns that some affected vehicles were incorrectly marked as repaired despite never receiving the required fix.

Ford is recalling more than 255,000 Focus models in the United States due to a potential engine stalling issue.
What Is Causing The Problem?
According to Ford, the issue originates from a faulty Canister Purge Valve (CPV) that may become stuck open during certain operating conditions.
When that happens, the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) may fail to properly detect the problem. As a result, the engine can stall unexpectedly without warning and may not restart immediately afterward.
Owners may notice several warning signs before the failure occurs, including an illuminated check-engine light or inaccurate fuel gauge readings.
The defect creates a potential safety concern because the vehicle could lose power while in motion.
Connected To A Previous Recall
The issue itself is not new.
Ford previously launched a recall campaign in 2019 to address a similar problem involving the same component. However, the automaker has now determined that a portion of the affected vehicle population did not actually receive the necessary repair.
Despite being labeled as corrected, those vehicles remained vulnerable to the defect.
As a result, Ford is launching a new recall campaign to ensure every affected vehicle receives the proper software update.

The recall affects Ford Focus sedans and hatchbacks built between the 2012 and 2018 model years.
How Ford Plans To Fix The Issue
To correct the problem, Ford dealers will update the vehicle’s Powertrain Control Module software.
The updated calibration is designed to better detect faults related to the Canister Purge Valve and help prevent unexpected stalling events.
Owners who previously paid for repairs related to the defect may also qualify for reimbursement from Ford.
The company says the repair will be performed free of charge through authorized dealerships.
When Owners Will Be Notified
Ford expects to begin notifying dealerships and vehicle owners on July 6.
Starting that same day, owners will be able to verify whether their vehicle is included in the recall through the NHTSA recall database.
Ford noted that, as of the filing date, it is not aware of any accidents or injuries connected to the defect.

Affected owners will be able to check their vehicle identification number through the NHTSA recall database beginning July 6.
What Focus Owners Should Do Next
Owners of 2012-2018 Ford Focus models should watch for official recall notifications and schedule service as soon as the repair becomes available.
While Ford has not reported any injuries related to the issue, the possibility of an unexpected engine stall makes addressing the recall a priority.
The campaign serves as another reminder of the importance of completing recall repairs promptly, especially when they involve critical powertrain systems that can affect vehicle operation and safety.

Audi Delays Next F1 Power Unit Upgrade Until 2027
Audi has confirmed that its Formula 1 power unit will not receive another major upgrade during the remainder of the 2026 season as the manufacturer shifts its focus toward long-term development for 2027.
Audi has confirmed that its Audi F1 power unit will not receive another major hardware upgrade before the end of the 2026 Formula 1 season. Instead, the manufacturer will focus its resources on a larger development package planned for 2027.
Moreover, the decision reflects Audi’s long-term strategy as it balances performance gains with Formula 1’s financial regulations.
Budget Limits Shape Audi’s Development Strategy
Although Audi introduced an upgraded power unit package at the Spanish Grand Prix, the team has decided not to develop another major hardware update this season.
According to Audi team principal Allan McNish, the decision is driven by the championship’s cost cap. Every Formula 1 team must carefully balance spending between chassis development and power unit improvements while ensuring sufficient resources remain for future projects.
As a result, Audi believes investing in a larger upgrade for 2027 offers a better return than introducing another costly package during the current campaign.

Audi is focusing its Formula 1 power unit development on a major upgrade planned for 2027.
Barcelona Upgrade Delivered Noticeable Progress
The Audi F1 power unit received its first significant update during the Spanish Grand Prix.
Rather than increasing outright performance, the package focused on improving driveability. According to Nico Hülkenberg, the revised power unit delivered smoother power delivery and better throttle response, addressing one of the biggest weaknesses of Audi’s package earlier in the season.
Furthermore, Audi’s recent progress has been reflected in its results. The team has scored points in each of the last three races, allowing it to move ahead of Williams in the Constructors’ Championship.

Audi’s Barcelona upgrade improved driveability and helped the team make consistent progress.
Why Driveability Matters in Formula 1
Hülkenberg explained that improving a power unit involves much more than increasing horsepower.
The way torque is delivered, throttle response and gearshift quality all influence how drivers control the car at the limit. Additionally, smoother power delivery makes it easier to accelerate out of corners while maintaining balance and maximizing grip.
Consequently, even subtle improvements can translate into valuable lap time during a Formula 1 race.
Audi Is Already Looking Toward 2027
Audi has made it clear that its next major Audi F1 power unit upgrade will focus on new hardware scheduled for the 2027 season.
Meanwhile, the team will continue developing its chassis throughout the remainder of 2026 while extracting additional performance from its existing engine package through setup optimization and software refinements. Therefore, fans should not expect another significant hardware change before next year.

Audi will continue chassis development while preparing its next major power unit upgrade for 2027.
Long-Term Planning Takes Priority
Audi’s decision highlights the reality of modern Formula 1 development under strict financial regulations.
Overall, by postponing major power unit upgrades until 2027, the manufacturer aims to maximize its long-term competitiveness instead of pursuing short-term gains during the remainder of the 2026 season.

BMW Reportedly Cancels Rugged X5-Based SUV Project
BMW has reportedly abandoned plans for a rugged, X5-based luxury SUV that was expected to compete with off-road icons like the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Range Rover.
The rumored BMW X5 off-road SUV may never reach production. According to recent reports, BMW has reportedly canceled development of a new luxury off-roader that would have expanded the brand’s SUV lineup with greater off-road capability.
Moreover, the project was expected to target buyers looking for a premium alternative to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and Land Rover Range Rover.
A Rugged SUV Based on the Next-Generation X5
The vehicle was reportedly developed under the internal G74 project name.
It would have shared its platform with the next-generation BMW X5 while featuring a more rugged design and improved off-road capability. Additionally, reports suggested the SUV would have offered three rows of seating and retained a gasoline-powered engine instead of switching to a fully electric powertrain.
Production was reportedly planned for the second half of 2029.

The canceled BMW project was expected to share its platform with the next-generation BMW X5.
BMW Wanted to Enter the Luxury Off-Road Segment
The BMW X5 off-road SUV was reportedly created to compete in the growing luxury off-road market.
Its primary rivals would have included the Mercedes-Benz G-Class and the Land Rover Range Rover, two of the segment’s best-known models. Furthermore, reports indicate BMW engineers drew inspiration from internal evaluations of the Rivian R1T, whose capabilities demonstrated growing customer interest in premium adventure vehicles.
As a result, BMW appeared ready to introduce one of its most capable SUVs ever.

BMW reportedly envisioned the model as a premium competitor to established luxury off-road SUVs.
Why the Project Was Reportedly Abandoned
Despite early enthusiasm, BMW is now said to have changed direction.
According to industry reports, executives concluded that the luxury off-road SUV segment is too small to justify the investment required for an all-new model. Consequently, the company reportedly decided to cancel the project before it entered production.
BMW has not officially confirmed that the G74 program existed, and company representatives have declined to comment on the reports.
BMW Continues Investing in Its Core SUV Portfolio
Although the BMW X5 off-road SUV may never become reality, BMW continues expanding its existing SUV lineup.
The next-generation X5 remains a key part of the company’s future strategy, while BMW also continues investing in electrification and high-performance M models. Therefore, resources originally linked to the canceled off-road project could now support other future vehicle programs.

BMW has not officially confirmed reports that the off-road SUV project has been canceled.
BMW X5 Off-Road SUV Would Have Been a Unique Addition
The BMW X5 off-road SUV had the potential to introduce a completely different character to BMW’s utility vehicle lineup.
Overall, if the reports are accurate, the company has decided to prioritize larger-volume projects rather than entering a niche market already dominated by established luxury off-road competitors.
