Farewell to the Jeep Renegade: The Urban SUV That Conquered Europe Bids Goodbye After 11 Years
The iconic Jeep Renegade has officially ended production, marking the close of an era for the American brand in Europe.
The Jeep Renegade has reached the end of the road. After 11 successful years, the Melfi plant in Italy has stopped production, bringing one of the most recognizable SUVs on the market to an end. Based on the Fiat 500X, with which it shared both platform and assembly line, the Renegade became a European favorite thanks to its rugged styling, compact size, and wide mechanical range, including plug-in hybrid versions and 4×4 options.
The First Jeep Built Outside the United States
The Renegade was far from just another Jeep. It represented a true revolution for the brand, which had previously focused exclusively on pure off-road vehicles. Measuring just 4.24 meters in length, it brought the adventurous Jeep spirit to the city, combining a bold, boxy design with surprising versatility. Its success across Europe proved that Jeep could maintain its off-road DNA without sacrificing everyday usability.
Now that production has officially ended, Jeep loses a key player in the fiercely competitive B-SUV segment. The Avenger, its spiritual successor, will now take over — though with a very different approach. At 4.08 meters long, it features mild-hybrid and fully electric powertrains wrapped in a more modern and aerodynamic design.
The Jeep Avenger Steps In
The Avenger has already become a success story, with over 200,000 orders in Europe between January 2023 and July 2025. Though smaller, it still offers a 4xe all-wheel-drive version powered by an electric motor on the rear axle, preserving part of the brand’s adventurous DNA. However, the gap left by the Renegade remains significant, and for now, there’s no official confirmation of a direct successor.

Rumors suggest that a new compact SUV could arrive in 2027, built on Stellantis’ STLA Small platform, potentially reviving the Renegade’s spirit with advanced electrified technology. Until then, Jeep will rely on the Avenger and Compass to cover its urban and compact SUV segments respectively.
A Legacy That Defined Jeep in Europe
Above the Avenger sits the Jeep Compass, a “cousin” of the Opel Grandland and Peugeot 3008, which continues to lead Jeep’s compact SUV lineup with its 4.55-meter length and hybrid plug-in options. With the Renegade’s farewell, Jeep closes a defining chapter in its modern history — one that reflects its commitment to Europe and its ability to adapt its off-road heritage to urban lifestyles. The Renegade was more than just a successful model; it was the Jeep that redefined the brand’s image worldwide, proving that adventure and city life can coexist under the same badge.
