Auriga Explorer: The Off-Road Pickup Camper That Redefines Adventure

By  |

The Auriga Explorer merges the ruggedness of the Ford Ranger with a pop-up roof, full kitchen, and complete self-sufficiency, creating a pickup camper ready for extreme expeditions.

Auriga Explorer: Smart, Practical Design for Adventurers

What appears to be a simple pickup with a rooftop tent is actually an ingeniously designed expedition vehicle. Based on the Ford Ranger, the Auriga Explorer appeals to adventurers and campers seeking comfort and practicality. Its fiberglass-reinforced body and compact pop-up roof design allow access to low-clearance parking while transforming the space into a full living area at the push of a button.

Modular Interior and Optimized Layout

Inside, the Explorer is divided into three functional zones. The driver’s cabin remains mostly unchanged, while behind it is a L-shaped kitchen with sink, gas burner, and compressor fridge, alongside a convertible seating area that transforms into a bed. The pop-up roof adds an extra sleeping compartment, offering space for up to four people and comfortable standing height for taller occupants.

Self-Sufficiency and Off-Road Comfort

The Auriga Explorer is built for autonomous travel, featuring a 150 Ah lithium battery, solar panels, and diesel-powered stationary heating. Freshwater and wastewater tanks provide up to 100 liters and 40 liters, respectively, allowing several days off-grid without sacrificing comfort. Electrical outlets (12V and 230V), USB-C ports, and an optional LTE module complete the high-tech setup.

Off-Road Capabilities with Everyday Usability

Using proven Ford Ranger technology, the Explorer offers four-wheel drive with low-range gearing, high ground clearance, and side-mounted spare wheels, ensuring robustness and off-road performance. Despite its 6×6-like appearance, it remains a classic 4×4 manageable in urban environments, retaining a functional tailgate and adding an electric ladder for easy access.

Space, Dimensions, and Production

Measuring 5.85 meters long and 2.25 meters high, the Explorer remains more compact than many traditional motorhomes and fits in standard shipping containers for global transport. The main bed under the pop-up roof measures 200 x 180 cm, with a wet room including shower and toilet, plus underfloor heating. Manufactured in Germany, series production is expected by year-end, with prices estimated above €200,000 due to its innovative design and full equipment package.
