Alfa Romeo’s Giorgio Platform Will Live On Until 2032: The Secret Behind Its Technical Longevity
Far from disappearing, the Giorgio platform will continue powering Alfa Romeo and Maserati models thanks to its Euro 7 compliance, preserving its legacy of performance and engineering excellence.

A Technical Foundation with More Life Than Expected
Although the current Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio are set to end production in 2027, their Giorgio platform will remain in use until 2032. This was confirmed by Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Maserati, during a recent press event. The decision comes from the platform’s upgrade to meet Euro 7 regulations, allowing it to stay relevant and continue underpinning some of Stellantis’ most exciting vehicles.
The Link Between Alfa Romeo and Maserati
It may come as a surprise, but Maserati also relies on the Giorgio architecture, specifically in the Grecale, a SUV that carries on the dynamic spirit that made the platform famous since its 2015 debut. Its sporty handling remains superior to that of the Tonale or Junior, proving that Giorgio is still one of the most refined and balanced foundations in Europe’s premium segment.
Future Plans: Evolution, Not Replacement
Delays in the arrival of models built on the STLA Large platform have led Alfa Romeo to extend Giorgio’s lifespan. According to Santo Ficili, CEO of Alfa Romeo and COO of Maserati, this isn’t a change in direction but a strategic continuation:
“The Giorgio platform will continue because we already have models like the Grecale based on it. The Giulia and Stelvio will remain on sale until 2027. The GranTurismo and GranCabrio use an evolved version known as Giorgio Sport.”
A Platform with Maserati DNA

The Trident brand will keep using Giorgio, particularly in high-performance luxury cars, where driving feel is paramount. Maserati considers this architecture part of its core technical DNA, which is why Giorgio will evolve into more performance-oriented versions, adapting to hybrid and electric systems without losing its essence.
Balancing Tradition and Technology
While the STLA Large platform represents the future of the Stellantis group –capable of hosting electric, hybrid, and combustion powertrains–, Giorgio will remain central to Maserati’s lineup well into the next decade. In short, Alfa Romeo and Maserati are preserving one of the most respected platforms in modern automotive engineering, a perfect blend of tradition, precision, and innovation.
