“PEUGEOT Design History” dazzles in Madrid: two centuries of art on wheels

By  |

The free exhibition at Matadero Madrid invites visitors to discover how the French brand has blended art, technology, and elegance from 1810 to the electric age.

When we talk about French design, we inevitably evoke sophistication, tradition, and modernity — qualities that Peugeot has masterfully brought into the automotive world. From its earliest creations to its futuristic concept cars, the lion brand has turned aesthetics into a hallmark that transcends generations.

More than two centuries of innovation and style

The exhibition “PEUGEOT Design History”, open to the public free of charge until October 26 at Matadero Madrid, offers a visual and emotional journey through over 200 years of the brand’s evolution. Starting in 1810, when the Peugeot brothers began crafting metal tools and bicycles, the display travels through time to highlight iconic milestones such as the Peugeot 402 from the interwar period — tracing decade by decade how the brand has remained at the forefront of design and innovation.

The journey also explores pivotal moments such as Europe’s post-war reconstruction, the optimism of the 1960s, and today’s transition toward electric mobility, showcasing how design has always been the driving force — both aesthetically and technically — behind Peugeot’s identity.

Interactivity and the future: visitors become designers

Beyond historical scale models and period documents, the exhibition features an interactive space called “Design Lab”, where visitors can create their own Peugeot and share their vision of what the car of the future might look like. On weekends, the latest models from Peugeot’s current lineup will also be available for test drives, connecting past and present through a unique experience.

The Inception Concept: a glimpse into tomorrow

The exhibition’s finale couldn’t be more striking. Peugeot presents its groundbreaking Inception Concept, a futuristic prototype that draws inspiration from the 9X8 Le Mans hypercar and introduces the Hypersquare steering system, influenced by the world of video games. This innovation not only hints at the brand’s future design language but also sets the stage for Peugeot’s next generation of production models.

With “PEUGEOT Design History”, the French automaker celebrates its legacy and reaffirms its philosophy: beauty can move on wheels. An unmissable event for enthusiasts of cars, art, and innovation alike.
