The next Hyundai Elantra N is expected to deliver more power, a bolder design and a possible 300-hp turbo engine.

Hyundai has already unveiled the next-generation Elantra, and all signs point to a more powerful Elantra N arriving soon. The upcoming performance sedan is expected to feature a bold new design, upgraded technology and, potentially, a significant power increase that could place it among the hottest sport compact sedans on the market.

Although Hyundai has yet to reveal official specifications, early details provide a good idea of what to expect.

The next-generation Hyundai Elantra N is expected to feature a more aggressive design inspired by Hyundai’s latest styling language.

A sharper design with classic N styling

The eighth-generation Hyundai Elantra introduces the brand’s new “Art of Steel” design language, featuring sharper body lines, wider proportions and a more aggressive appearance.

The future Elantra N is expected to build on that foundation with:

  • Exclusive N front bumper
  • Red performance accents
  • Wider fenders
  • Larger rear wing
  • Sportier side skirts
  • Dual exhaust outlets

Inside, Hyundai is expected to retain the large digital displays while adding N-exclusive sport seats, performance controls and unique interior trim.

A 300-horsepower engine could be on the way

One of the biggest questions surrounding the next Hyundai Elantra N is its powertrain.

Reports suggest Hyundai could replace the current 268-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with the brand’s 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, an engine capable of producing up to 300 horsepower.

Hyundai has also confirmed it is developing a new generation of high-performance engines designed to deliver stronger performance while meeting stricter emissions regulations.

The performance sedan is expected to continue offering:

  • Six-speed manual transmission
  • Optional eight-speed dual-clutch automatic
  • Front-wheel drive

If output reaches the 300-horsepower mark, the Elantra N would compete more directly with models such as the Honda Civic Type R, Toyota GR Corolla and Volkswagen Golf R.

Hyundai could equip the next Elantra N with a more powerful 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.

Hyundai is expected to unveil the new Elantra N sometime in 2027, with sales likely beginning as a 2028 model. Pricing has not been announced, but the hotter compact sedan could start in the high $30,000 range and exceed $40,000 if it receives the anticipated power and performance upgrades.

The upcoming Infiniti QX80 Red Sport won’t arrive as originally planned. Instead, Infiniti has postponed the high-performance luxury SUV to 2028 to further improve its power, chassis, and overall driving dynamics before it reaches dealerships.

The performance-oriented version of the Infiniti QX80 was initially expected to debut this year, but the automaker has decided to take additional time to refine the project. Rather than focusing primarily on increased horsepower, engineers are now working on a more comprehensive performance package that includes suspension, braking, and aerodynamic improvements.

Infiniti Wants More Than Just Extra Horsepower

According to company executives, simply adding power wasn’t enough for a flagship SUV expected to compete with the segment’s top performance models.

Beyond the engine upgrades, the new Red Sport is expected to receive a revised suspension, larger brakes, an active exhaust system, and improved handling characteristics designed to match its increased performance.

The upcoming 2028 Infiniti QX80 Red Sport is also expected to feature a much more aggressive appearance than originally planned.

Executives believe buyers in this segment expect far more than straight-line speed, making driving dynamics and overall refinement equally important priorities.

Volkswagen has officially revealed the production version of the new ID. Cross, its most affordable electric SUV to date. Built on the latest MEB+ platform, the compact crossover offers a spacious cabin, modern technology and up to 271 miles (436 km) of WLTP range while starting at around €28,000 in Germany.

Positioned below the ID.4, the ID. Cross expands Volkswagen’s growing electric lineup with a practical option aimed at buyers looking for an accessible EV.

Compact size with impressive interior space

The Volkswagen ID. Cross measures 163.5 inches (4,153 mm) long, making it a direct competitor in Europe’s subcompact SUV segment.

Despite its compact footprint, the dedicated electric platform allows Volkswagen to maximize cabin space. The wheelbase stretches to 102.4 inches (2,601 mm), providing more passenger room than the combustion-powered T-Cross.

Cargo capacity also improves, offering 475 liters of rear storage, while the front trunk adds an extra 25 liters for smaller items.

The exterior introduces Volkswagen’s new “Pure Positive” design language, featuring cleaner body lines, LED light bars and wheel options ranging from 17 to 20 inches.

The cabin brings back physical controls while offering more passenger and cargo space.

Physical buttons return alongside up to 271 miles of range

Inside, Volkswagen responds to customer feedback by bringing back physical buttons for key functions.

Drivers will find:

  • Conventional steering-wheel controls
  • Physical climate-control shortcuts
  • Volume knob between the seats
  • 12.9-inch infotainment display
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster

Higher trims also include premium features such as 12-way power-adjustable massage seats, memory functions and a 425-watt Harman Kardon audio system.

The ID. Cross is available with two battery options:

  • 37-kWh LFP battery: up to 196 miles (316 km) WLTP range
  • 52-kWh NMC battery: up to 271 miles (436 km) WLTP range

Both versions can recharge from 10% to 80% in approximately 23 to 24 minutes using DC fast charging.

Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor available with 114 hp, 133 hp or 208 hp.

The ID. Cross offers up to 271 miles of WLTP range and starts at around €28,000.
