New Mazda MX-5 2026 Spirit Racing: the purest roadster now with up to 200 hp

The iconic Japanese sports car raises the bar with the new Spirit Racing versions, boosting both performance and exclusivity. The Mazda MX-5 2026 promises an unmatched driving experience, staying true to its lightweight and agile philosophy.

The Mazda MX-5 2026 stands firm as one of the last true driver’s cars left on the market. This compact roadster, measuring just 3.91 metres long, remains a passionate and affordable alternative to models such as the BMW Z4, Toyota GR Supra, or Mercedes CLE. Now, with its new Spirit Racing editions, Mazda injects the MX-5 with a more aggressive look and a series of track-inspired technical enhancements.

On the outside, these special editions feature forged RAYS wheels, an exclusive aerodynamic kit, signature decals, a rear spoiler, and a sport exhaust system. This isn’t just about looks — these elements enhance aerodynamics, grip, and stability at high speeds.

Race-inspired interior with premium materials

Inside, the MX-5 Spirit Racing is pure driver focus. It comes with RECARO bucket seats, optional SABELT harnesses, and an Alcantara-trimmed dashboard with red contrast stitching. You’ll also find a numbered commemorative plaque and a special instrument cluster indicator, reinforcing the exclusivity of this edition. Every element is designed around the driver: a low seating position, precise controls, and a seamless connection with the car — all faithful to Mazda’s “Jinba Ittai” philosophy, the concept of perfect harmony between human and machine.

Two power levels, one driving spirit

Under the bonnet, the standard Spirit Racing model features Mazda’s well-known 2.0-litre SKYACTIV-G engine, producing 184 hp and 205 Nm of torque, more than enough for a car that weighs just 1,070 kg. The real showstopper, however, is the Spirit Racing 12R, which delivers 200 hp and 215 Nm, while trimming weight down to just 1,050 kg — achieving a genuine sports car power-to-weight ratio.

Both versions come with a six-speed manual gearbox, a retuned Bilstein suspension, BREMBO brakes, an aluminium strut brace, and sharper steering and pedal response, all engineered to provide the most engaging driving feel possible.

Pricing, limited editions, and availability

The new Mazda MX-5 Spirit Racing 2025/2026 has now begun international sales. In Japan, prices start at around €29,960 for the 184 hp version (limited to 2,200 units) and rise to €43,300 for the 200 hp 12R, of which only 200 examples will be built. With this edition, Mazda reaffirms its dedication to pure driving pleasure, offering a lightweight, analogue, and character-filled sports car in an era dominated by SUVs and electrification. The MX-5 Spirit Racing remains a true icon — a celebration of authentic, unfiltered driving passion.
