MINI Cooper S JCW: The Future Classic That Still Roars
The John Cooper Works version of the fourth generation could be the last gasoline MINI and one of the final compact hot hatches.

As electrification spreads, candidates for future classics are increasingly modern models. The MINI Cooper S JCW F66 is a perfect example: its bold styling, with air intakes, spoilers, and alloy wheels, retains MINI’s signature cheekiness while taking it up a notch with a more aggressive and sporty design. The interior, carefully finished, combines fun and originality, featuring a customizable central dial that offers several “experiences,” with the “Go-kart” mode providing a real tachometer and a more direct driving feel.
Power and Driving Thrills

The MINI Cooper S JCW adds 27 HP and 80 Nm of torque over the standard version, along with chassis reinforcements, custom springs and dampers, and increased front negative camber. Equipped with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and weighing 1,330 kg, it delivers thrilling performance: 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h. The power delivery is remarkable, with peak torque between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm that remains strong up to over 6,000 rpm, complemented by the engine roar, turbo whistle, and blow-off valve buzz, making every acceleration addictive.
The dynamic behavior is another highlight. While it shares little with Alec Issigonis’ original MINI, this little rascal retains agility and liveliness, responding effortlessly to the throttle as the rear axle dances and the front tires grip the road bravely. The steering is lively, precise, and responsive, and the driving position combined with a sturdy steering wheel provides immediate confidence, even on winding roads.
The suspension, firm yet effective, adds a sporty feel, although rough roads require some moderation to avoid bumps. Nevertheless, the fun factor is guaranteed, and this MINI manages to bring smiles even on the most mundane drives, proving that the essence of a hot hatch goes far beyond the numbers.
In short, the MINI Cooper S JCW is a prime example of how a small sporty car can become a future classic. With an engine that still roars, agile handling, and bold design, if this is the last gasoline generation, it’s a perfect farewell for fans of compact performance cars.
