Mercedes-Benz CLA 2025: We Drive the Captivating New Sedan
Electric versions reach almost 800 km of certified range.
The Mercedes-Benz CLA 2025 stands as one of the most sophisticated cars ever produced by the German brand, marking a key milestone in its electrification strategy. Built on the new MMA platform with 800-volt architecture, it introduces groundbreaking innovations derived from the Vision EQXX prototype, combining technology, design, and efficiency in equal measure. Despite its electric focus, Mercedes will also offer mild-hybrid engines before the end of the year for drivers who aren’t yet ready to make the full switch to zero emissions.
Much larger than its predecessor, the new CLA measures 4.72 meters in length with a 2.79-meter wheelbase, boasting sleek proportions and a coupe-like silhouette with frameless doors. Its aerodynamic coefficient of 0.21 enhances range and performance, while design highlights include 142 illuminated stars on the closed grille of electric models, connected LED taillights, and a standard panoramic roof. Inside, the cabin features two large screens (10 and 14 inches), high-quality materials, and an evolved layout that prioritizes modern minimalism over excess decoration.
The electric range includes the CLA 250+ (272 hp, rear-wheel drive) and CLA 350 4MATIC (354 hp, all-wheel drive), both powered by an 85 kWh NMC battery capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. Official WLTP figures quote up to 790 km of range, making it one of the most efficient sedans in its class. Performance is equally impressive, with 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds for the CLA 250+ and 4.9 seconds for the CLA 350 4MATIC, which also features a two-speed transmission similar to the Porsche Taycan. Regenerative braking derived from Formula 1 “brake-by-wire” technology allows up to 200 kW of energy recovery.

On the road, the CLA feels nimble, refined, and engaging, offering a driving experience that contrasts sharply with today’s SUV-dominated market. The low center of gravity and rear propulsion give it dynamic balance, while excellent insulation keeps the cabin quiet even at high speeds. Average energy consumption during our test in Madrid ranged between 12.3 and 15.5 kWh/100 km, very close to the official figure. Despite minor compromises in visibility and trunk practicality, the CLA’s build quality and driving pleasure remain true to Mercedes’ premium DNA.
Prices start at €54,710 for the CLA 250+ and €59,235 for the CLA 350 4MATIC, with a third version — the CLA 200 (224 hp, 550 km) — arriving soon. The model includes a home charging point installed by Iberdrola and qualifies for the Spanish MOVES Plan, offering up to €7,000 in incentives when trading in an older car. With its blend of style, technology, efficiency, and performance, the Mercedes-Benz CLA 2025 positions itself as one of the most complete and captivating electric sedans of the decade.
