Mazda MX-5 Spirit Racing 2026: the purest roadster yet, now with 200 hp and only 200 units
The legendary Mazda MX-5 takes its driving purity to new heights with the Spirit Racing editions — more power, less weight, and a setup born for the track. Exclusivity, precision, and Japanese passion in their purest form.
The new Mazda MX-5 2026 arrives in a version that will thrill purists: the Spirit Racing, a reinterpretation of the iconic Japanese roadster that pushes its sportiness to the extreme. At just 3.91 meters long, this lightweight two-seater stays true to its classic philosophy, but now with an even sharper attitude. Against rivals such as the BMW Z4, Mercedes-Benz CLE, or Toyota GR Supra, the MX-5 remains the most authentic and accessible option for true driving enthusiasts.
A more aggressive design and a cockpit built for racing
The Mazda MX-5 Spirit Racing stands out immediately with its exclusive aerodynamic package, forged RAYS wheels, unique decals and logos, and a rear spoiler and sports exhaust that highlight its track-ready personality. Inside, the atmosphere is as refined as it is focused: RECARO bucket seats, optional SABELT harnesses, Alcantara upholstery with red stitching, and a commemorative plaque that underlines its exclusivity. Every element is designed to immerse the driver in a world of performance and precision.
SKYACTIV-G engine and 12R version with 200 hp: Japanese precision engineering
Under the hood lies Mazda’s renowned 2.0 SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder engine, fine-tuned for sharper response. The standard version produces 184 hp and 205 Nm of torque, enough to make the most of its featherweight 1,070 kg chassis. But the spotlight shines on the Spirit Racing 12R, which boosts output to 200 hp and 215 Nm, while trimming its weight down to just 1,050 kg. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox, staying loyal to the MX-5’s purist DNA.

Reworked chassis and pure driving sensations
Mazda didn’t just add power — it refined everything. The chassis has been completely re-engineered, featuring Bilstein suspension, high-performance BREMBO brakes, and an aluminum strut bar for enhanced rigidity. Steering, gearshift precision, and pedal response have all been fine-tuned to deliver an intimate connection between car and driver, something only the MX-5 has managed to preserve generation after generation.
Limited production and prices in Japan: exclusivity guaranteed
The new Mazda MX-5 Spirit Racing 2025/2026 is ready for its global rollout. In Japan, prices start at €29,960 for the 184 hp version (limited to 2,200 units) and reach €43,300 for the 12R 200 hp model, of which only 200 examples will be built. A sports car that not only honors the MX-5’s heritage but also cements its place as the world’s purest, most balanced, and most desired roadster.
