CITROEN BASALT VISION: Sporty Fastback Concept Revealed in Brazil
The automaker showed this model at the 2025 São Paulo International Motor Show in Brazil. This concept aims to inject a sporty character into the production model.
The Citroën Basalt/C3 X, an affordable fastback crossover, targets buyers seeking character in their vehicle. This model is sold in markets such as South America and India. However, the brand has rolled out a sportier concept version. The new concept was teased digitally during its launch last year.
The latest version of the Basalt Vision leans toward a performance-minded look. The suspension is lower compared to the production model. In addition, the installation of new 18-inch wheels improves the appearance. These wheels contrast with the 16-inch wheels of the production model. A striking detail is the oversized glossy black rear diffuser. This diffuser houses an F1-style brake light along with dual chrome tailpipes.
The concept is based on the Basalt Dark Edition, the top trim in Brazil. Therefore, the aesthetic changes are skin-deep. Unfortunately, no performance upgrades are hiding underneath this tougher stance. Other small details help sell the sporty look. For instance, André Red accents trace the edges of the bodywork. Likewise, decals run across the sides and hood.

The Most Powerful Engine in the Local Portfolio
The 1.0-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine is familiar. This engine produces up to 128 hp (96 kW/130 hp) and 200 Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. It is important to note that these figures are achieved when the vehicle runs on ethanol. Despite not being high power, this engine is the most powerful setup in Citroën’s local portfolio. It sends power to the front wheels through a CVT gearbox with seven simulated ratios.
The Basalt Vision seems more like a design experiment than a preview of an actual trim level. However, it would not be surprising to see the emergence of a mild appearance package based on this concept. This would be very similar to the C3 Sport Edition sold in India. Meanwhile, the Basalt/C3 X will likely remain limited to the South American and Indian markets. As an additional note, Fiat is working on a mechanically related fastback that will also be offered in Europe as part of the extended Panda family.
