iX3: The Electric SUV Coming to North America for Under $60,000

The first Neue Klasse model lands in the U.S., promising record range, ultra-fast charging, and a competitive price.

BMW has made a bold statement with the official arrival of the all-new fully electric iX3 in North America, a model that represents far more than just the electrification of its popular X3. With a starting price of under $60,000, this SUV becomes the Bavarian brand’s most ambitious bet within its Neue Klasse roadmap, which will define the future of its lineup for the next decade.

A reinvented X3 for the electric era

The iX3 is the first production vehicle of the Neue Klasse family, a strategy that blends innovation, digitalization, and sustainability. While it retains the essence of the X3–BMW’s second best-selling model after the X5–this new SUV goes further by offering fully electric variants with a refreshed design and a technology-packed interior. According to BMW, the iX3 debuts the “Heart of Joy” philosophy, ensuring that driving remains exciting despite the technological leap.

In terms of performance, the iX3 features dual-motor electric propulsion with all-wheel drive, available in two configurations: the 40 xDrive and the 50 xDrive. The former offers a range of up to 400 miles (644 km) per charge, while the top version delivers 463 hp, 475 Nm of torque, and 0–100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds. Thanks to its 800-volt architecture, it can recover 174 miles (280 km) in 10 minutes and 217 miles (350 km) in just 21 minutes using fast charging.

Europe will receive the model first, as is customary, but BMW has already confirmed its U.S. launch for the summer of 2026. The iX3 will be offered in two trim levels, with differences in power, tech, and equipment–always maintaining the goal of delivering a premium SUV at a competitive price against Tesla and Chinese automakers.

With this launch, BMW aims to consolidate its leadership in the transition toward electric mobility. The iX3 is not just another SUV–it’s a bold statement of intent from a brand determined to remain a benchmark in innovation and driving pleasure in the electric era.
