Honda is reportedly evaluating a lifted Accord-inspired SUV for a future production program.
Next-Generation Hybrid Powertrain Expected
Reports indicate the future Honda Accord SUV would use Honda’s next-generation hybrid technology.
The updated powertrain is expected to feature a new direct-drive electric motor, an improved generator motor and a redesigned battery system. Additionally, production could reportedly begin around 2029, potentially at Honda’s manufacturing plant in Marysville, Ohio.
However, Honda has not officially confirmed development of the vehicle.

The proposed model could share Honda’s next-generation hybrid system with the future Accord sedan.

Although reports suggest the project is under evaluation, Honda says no production decision has been made.
The automaker stated that it currently has no announced plans to build this type of vehicle. Therefore, the project remains speculative until Honda provides official confirmation.

Moreover, the decision comes as the company prepares its Halewood manufacturing facility for the next generation of Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.
A Decade of the Discovery Sport
The Land Rover Discovery Sport first arrived for the 2015 model year, replacing the LR2 in North America.
Over the years, the SUV established itself as one of the brand’s entry-level premium models, offering family-friendly practicality alongside Land Rover’s renowned off-road capability. Furthermore, the model received a significant update in 2020, introducing refreshed styling, a new four-cylinder engine and an available hybrid powertrain.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport will end production after serving as the brand’s compact luxury SUV for more than a decade.
Changing Regulations and Declining Sales
While Land Rover describes the decision as part of the vehicle’s normal product lifecycle, the timing also coincides with stricter safety regulations in Europe.
The latest requirements demand additional driver assistance and safety technologies that are not currently integrated into the Discovery Sport. Consequently, Land Rover has chosen to retire the model instead of investing in another major redesign.

Production of the Discovery Sport will officially conclude in December 2026.
New Models Will Replace the Discovery Sport
Although the Land Rover Discovery Sport is leaving the lineup, the company is already preparing new products to expand its compact SUV portfolio.
Among the upcoming additions is the Defender Sport, a smaller off-road SUV inspired by the larger Defender. Meanwhile, Land Rover is also developing a new Range Rover GT, which is expected to deliver a more premium and performance-focused alternative.
As a result, the brand aims to strengthen its position in the luxury SUV market with a completely refreshed generation of vehicles.

Future models, including the Defender Sport, are expected to succeed the Discovery Sport in Land Rover’s lineup.
