The Most Reliable Car Brands of 2025: Lexus, Subaru, and Toyota Lead the Ranking
Lexus, Subaru, and Toyota top this year’s reliability list according to Consumer Reports. Electric vehicles face technical difficulties while conventional hybrids dominate the market for their durability.
Lexus, Subaru, and Toyota lead the global reliability ranking this year. These brands use extensively tested components and gradual updates in their models. Toyota places six vehicles among the ten most reliable on the current market. Subaru stands out especially thanks to the performance of its Impreza and Crosstrek models. Honda and BMW complete the select group of the top five manufacturers.
The study analyzes approximately 380,000 vehicles to determine these positions of honor. The data includes models from the year 2000 to the new 2026 releases. Each car is evaluated in twenty potential areas of mechanical and technological problems. The brands with the best results avoid radical structural changes in their new generations. This strategy limits the appearance of serious issues in engines and transmissions.

The Contrast Between Hybrids and Electric Cars
Traditional non-plug-in hybrids represent the safest option for the buyer. These models achieve results equal to or better than pure combustion versions. The Ford F-150 Hybrid and the Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid stand out particularly. In contrast, electric and plug-in vehicles show much more inconsistent reliability. These systems frequently suffer from electronic failures and problems at charging points.
Tesla shows a notable improvement by climbing eight positions in the general ranking. The Model 3 and Model Y are now the most reliable electric vehicles. However, the Cybertruck still sits below the reliability average. Mazda suffers a drastic drop of eight spots due to its new SUVs. Complete redesigns often expose users to failures during the first years.
