Genesis Launches the GV60 Magma: A 640 HP Hyper-EV with Villainous Spirit
The GV60 Magma is the first production vehicle from Genesis’ new Magma high-performance division. Genesis describes it as a “superhero” that merges the original model’s values with an extra facet.
The Genesis brand was inspired by Dr. Evil when naming its new performance division. The name Magma evokes the villain’s plan to melt cities with liquid-hot lava. The Magma division started in 2023 with the GV80 Coupe Concept. The brand’s signature color is an orange/red simulating a flaming Cheeto. Chief Creative Officer, Luc Donckerwolke, has defined the Magma line.
Donckerwolke calls it “the best of the best of Genesis models”. He describes it as a “bionic cocktail”. This represents the blend between the donor vehicle and this extra facet. Other concepts presented include the G80 Magma Special and the GMR-001 Hypercar.

Specifications and Expansion Strategy
The GV60 Magma will be a 640 hp sports car with all-wheel drive. This performance car is capable of lapping race tracks. Acceleration from zero to 62 mph is achieved in 3.4 seconds. Furthermore, its top speed is 164 mph. These specifications establish it as a performance screamer. The US launch as a 2027 model will bring the publication of the EPA range.
The official range for the GV60 Magma has not been listed yet. However, nearly identical models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N offer 221 miles. Meanwhile, the Kia EV GT has a range of 231 miles. Genesis will offer Magma models across much of its current lineup. This follows the strategy of BMW with the M line and Mercedes-Benz with AMG.
First Track Impressions: Sound and Grip
We took the GV60 Magma to Circuit Paul Ricard in the South of France. Andre Lotterer, a three-time Le Mans winner, drove the vehicle at high speed. Acceleration was impressive, as is common with many electric supercars. Lotterer utilized the Magma-exclusive engine sound and the Virtual Gear Shift. The sound matched the virtual shifts perfectly.
This technology provides useful feedback to the driver. The all-wheel-drive system parses power to all four wheels. This ensures that whichever wheels can benefit most from it receive power. The car gripped firmly, not sliding all over the track. Lotterer was hitting the apexes precisely. Although there was some yaw, it was always under control. Lotterer and teammate Pipo Derani will lead Genesis’ Hypercar effort in the 2026 FIA World Endurance Championship.
