Dacia Duster 2026 Transforms into a Taxi to Challenge Toyota’s Hybrid Hegemony
The taxi sector in Spain, traditionally dominated by Toyota’s reliability and low urban consumption, could face a shift with the arrival of a more affordable and adapted option
Toyota’s dominance in the taxi sector stems from its proven reliability and the low fuel consumption of its hybrid models in urban environments. However, the emergence of an inherently more budget-friendly vehicle, such as the Dacia Duster, could begin to alter this situation. The key to this change is that only an inexpensive vehicle possesses the potential to shift the current market dynamic.
Specialized and Reversible Adaptation Packages
Our colleagues at Motor1.com Germany reported on the project by Intax, a company that provides specific solutions for the conversion of the Romanian SUV into a taxi. This adaptation program is quite comprehensive, as it features the distinctive light ivory color, with the option of TPU lacquer protection. Furthermore, Intax includes essential pre-installations for a taximeter, an emergency alarm system, interior leather upholstery, and the necessary roof signs.
Modular Components and Total Compatibility
All elements included in the conversion package are completely reversible, thanks to the system known as RSY. The taxi package also incorporates a pre-installation for the radio, a centralized interior lighting system, and a detailed user manual. It is important to note that these offerings are valid for all Duster engine variants, regardless of the mechanical version chosen by the taxi driver.

Pricing Options and the Potential of the Hybrid Version
The prices for these conversion packages in Germany range between 1,090 and 3,150 euros, depending on the selected interior lining. Considering the Spanish market, this adaptation could be very sensible, particularly when looking at the 155 combined horsepower Hybrid version. This efficient powertrain consists of a 1.8-liter, 109 hp naturally aspirated gasoline engine, paired with two electric motors and the Multimode automatic transmission.
Performance and Efficiency in the City
The hybrid version, which has front-wheel drive, completes the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration maneuver in 9.4 seconds. It records a very low certified fuel consumption of only 4.7 liters per 100 km, which is critical for professional use. Indeed, Dacia affirms that this powertrain allows for up to 80% purely electric driving in urban use. Finally, the Duster offers a good balance between its length (4.34 meters) and interior space, a crucial advantage for rear seat habitability in a taxi vehicle.
