Bürstner Papillon 2026: the camper van that breaks the market for under €40,000
The new Papillon proves that getting started in the camper world is possible without breaking the bank, offering surprisingly generous equipment and a solid mechanical base.

The Bürstner Papillon (2026) arrives with force in the highly competitive segment of affordable camper vans. Designed for outdoor enthusiasts on a tight budget, this new model from the German manufacturer starts at €39,999 in Germany and follows a very clear formula: deliver the essentials–and a little more–at a fair price. A philosophy that, in a way, mirrors modern Formula 1, where efficiency and smart use of resources make all the difference.
An affordable camper that does not give up what really matters

Based on the Citroën Jumper, the Papillon is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine with 120 hp, paired with a manual gearbox and 15-inch steel wheels. With a length of 5.99 metres, it remains easy to handle both in the city and on narrow rural roads, while offering a 1.90-metre interior height, more than adequate for everyday use. In a segment where it competes with models such as the LMC Innovan Pure, Sunlight Cliff 540 or Team Livingstone Go, Bürstner leverages its experience to extract maximum value from every euro.
Where the Papillon truly surprises is in its standard equipment. For less than €40,000 it includes LED lighting, an induction hob, diesel heating, USB-A and USB-C ports, a 95 Ah onboard battery, 80 litres of fresh water and 90 litres of waste water storage, as well as a rear transverse bed with cold-foam mattresses. This level of specification challenges the idea that budget camper vans are little more than bare metal.
Customization is another strong point. The standard Icy White paint comes at no extra cost, while colours such as Expedition Grey or Thunder Grey cost €990, and the bold Tizian Red is priced at €1,690. For those needing more space, the pop-up roof with an additional sleeping area increases capacity to five occupants. Options such as the anthracite awning and the various Comfort, Technology, Safety and Winter packs allow the camper to be tailored to different lifestyles, from summer getaways to cold-weather adventures.
Inside, the Bürstner Papillon 2026 maintains a smart, functional approach: a versatile seating area, a minimalist kitchen that can be upgraded with a compressor fridge, and a simple yet effective washroom, offering several toilet solutions, including options usually found in far more expensive campers. With a payload of up to 800 kg, it allows you to travel with luggage, bicycles and accessories without immediately hitting the 3.5-tonne limit. In short, an honest and well-thought-out proposal that makes the Papillon one of the most appealing entry points into the camper van world today.
