Buick’s Chinese-Built Envision Survives Trump’s Tariffs With A Massive Price Hike
The hike is likely a response to the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, which have put the model’s future in the country in question.
Buick has applied a considerable price increase to the 2026 Envision. The base cost went up from $38,000 to $41,000. This means the total price, including the $1,895 destination fee, exceeds $42,000. The increase is $3,000 over the previous price, and $4,500 in total in less than a year.
Although the brand has not given an official explanation for the increase, the most probable reason is its manufacturing origin. The Envision is assembled in China. Therefore, it is subject to the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. These tariffs are hefty and have complicated the model’s commercial destiny in the US. For now, Buick’s strategy is to absorb the costs with these price hikes.
Equipment and Powertrain of the 2026 Envision
Apart from the price change, the 2026 Envision shows few visible novelties. However, the brand has been radio silent for almost two years.
The entry-level model includes:
- LED lighting units.
- Silver roof rails.
- 18-inch alloy wheels.

The interior is familiar. It features a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It also incorporates a 30-inch display with Google built-in. Added to this are perforated leatherette seats. It also has a wireless smartphone charger. The ambient lighting system, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and an automatic climate control system complete the equipment.
On the safety front, the Envision includes a host of standard driver assistance systems. These come standard and include:
- Adaptive Cruise Control.
- Forward Collision Alert.
- Automatic Emergency Braking.
- Blind Zone Steering Assist.
- Lane Keep Assist.
- Traffic Sign Recognition.
All versions retain a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine produces 228 hp (170 kW) and 258 lb-ft (349 Nm) of torque. It is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel drive system is standard.
