2026 Jeep Recon: The 650 HP Electric SUV Embraces Wrangler-ish Attitude
The model, which blends supercar power with authentic off-road capability, starts production in Mexico and US sales early next year.
The new 2026 Jeep Recon marks the brand’s debut in the segment of all-electric adventure SUVs. Jeep designed the vehicle from the ground up on a dedicated battery-electric platform. This configuration ensures the model satisfies both traditional off-road loyalists and new EV buyers.
The Recon’s power is impressive. The electric powertrain produces 650 HP and 620 lb-ft of torque. Thanks to this, it hits 60 mph from a standstill in 3.6 seconds. Estimated range extends up to 250 miles, varying by trim.
4×4 Technology and Adventure Features
Jeep engineers applied their experience in 4xe technology to develop the Recon. The propulsion system uses front and rear electric drive modules. Furthermore, Jeep specifically tuned the software.
The Moab version of the Recon boosts its off-road credentials. This trim incorporates a shorter rear drive ratio (15:1) to multiply torque for rock crawling. The electronic locking differential supports this function. Meanwhile, automatic axle disconnects reduce drag during everyday driving.
The suspension uses a short-long-arm layout up front and an integral-link design in the rear. This setup ensures both road comfort and trail articulation. The Recon includes 33-inch tires as standard. This gives it 9.1 inches of ground clearance. Approach (33.8°), breakover (23.3°), and departure (33.1°) angles meet Jeep’s expectations. A full complement of steel skid plates guards the battery pack.
Jeep’s Selec-Terrain traction control system returns in EV-specific form. Rock mode is exclusive to the Moab trim. The system is paired with low-speed Selec-Speed Control. This system facilitates descents and climbs. Consequently, it recreates the two-pedal rock-crawl feel of gas-powered Jeeps.

Technological Interior and Unique Modularity
The Recon’s design follows the Wrangler formula without outright copying it. The boxy greenhouse and seven-slot grille, now illuminated, anchor its aesthetic. However, its open-air focus will excite enthusiasts. The Recon is the only fully electric SUV that allows doors, rear quarter glass, and swing-gate glass to be removed. This is achieved without tools. The Sky One-Touch power top is optional.
The interior mixes rugged textures with a large digital presence. It offers 26 total inches of screen real estate. This space is split between a 12.3-inch cluster and a 14.5-inch center touchscreen. Storage improves considerably compared to older Jeep off-roaders. It now includes a two-tier center console and nearly 66 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats folded. Standard Alpine audio maintains clarity even with the doors off. Furthermore, it integrates the Trails Offroad app. This app offers detailed guides for US and Canadian trails.
