Audi Revives the Legendary A4 as a Fully Electric Sedan

By  |

The German manufacturer confirms the return of its iconic compact model by the end of the decade with a completely new architecture.

Audi will bring back the beloved A4 compact sedan in approximately 2028 or 2029. Currently, the brand is undergoing the final year of marketing for the internal combustion model in North America. This decision responds to the new naming strategy where even numbers designate electric vehicles. Therefore, the current gasoline A4 was consolidated within the new A5 range. However, CEO Gernot Döllner confirmed the development of a fully electric successor.

Technical Innovation and Next-Generation Platform

The new A4 will use the Volkswagen Group’s Scalable Systems Platform (SSP) architecture. This platform suffered delays due to software issues but will finally hit the market. The first vehicles with this technology will debut in late 2027 or early 2028. The A4 is expected to incorporate dual motors to offer all-wheel drive as standard. The most powerful variants could reach 700 hp to compete with direct rivals.

Cutting-Edge Design Inspired by Concept C

The aesthetics of the future model will take key elements from the recent Audi Concept C prototype. This visual language features sharp creases in the bodywork and a markedly vertical front end. The interior will seek a balance between digital minimalism and ergonomic functionality. Audi will implement 800-volt fast-charging systems to reduce waiting times. The estimated launch price could fall between $55,000 and $65,000. This sedan will be fundamental in the biggest change in the company’s history.
