2023 Genesis Electrified G80 – Introduces Performance and Luxury In One Neat Package
The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 is the electric version of the famous G80 sedan introduced as the 2023 model. The Electrified G80 may not be the most exciting name, but the car delivers more than you’d expect.
The first time we saw it, our first impressions were that the Electrified G80 was nearly indistinguishable from its gasoline-powered counterpart, both inside and outside. That’s a plus point for us because the G80 isn’t a bad-looking sedan by any measure. Not to mention the cabin is lovely…more about this later.
The belly of the beast, as we like to call it, isn’t the turbocharged four-cylinder banger. Instead, the Electrified G80 replaces that with a dual electric motor setup that delivers an impressive 365 HP.
The 87.2 -kWh battery pack may not sound like a lot on paper, but the fact is that it delivers an impressive 282 miles of range. Moreover, it is pretty hard to notice as the battery has been hooked onto the floorpan. However, this has meant that the rear seat headroom has taken a slight hit. The battery also takes up two cubic feet of space in the trunk. That said, not many people will notice these apparent drawbacks, which is a good thing because other than these, there are no shortcomings, at least to our knowledge of the Electrified G80.
Performance and Driving Pleasure
The Electrified G80 sports two electric motors, i.e., one on each axle. This not only gives the vehicle all-wheel drive capabilities, but when combined, it delivers an impressive 365 HP.
Acceleration, as you’d expect from the electrified version, is swift, and during our test drive hit 60mph from 0 in just 4.1 seconds. To put things into perspective, this puts the G80 around 0.6 seconds ahead of its gasoline-powered counterparts with the addition of a rear-wheel steering system. The only thing missing is the humming of a gasoline engine.
Driving at highway speeds, the Electrified G80 delivers excellent comfort. It breaks like a charm and, as we said earlier, has no weak spots.
Interior Design and Comfort
Now because the Electrified G80 needed to squeeze in a battery, the company had to make a few minor changes to the cabin, which are not apparent in the photos you see. For starters, tall drivers will notice that the headliner is closer to their heads.
However, the interior is still a well-designed piece of engineering, with a posh and premium design. We love that the company has not spared any expense when it comes to using materials that look and feel great, like soft leather upholstery and wood trim.
The infotainment system is a generous 14.5-inch touchscreen, which doubles as a hub for the G80’s entertainment. The display can also be controlled via the circular dial on the centre console and buttons on the steering wheel. Also, voice commands work as expected. In addition, there is support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Final Word
The 2023 Genesis Electrified G80 is a beautiful vehicle worth every dime. If you are still in doubt, we’d highly recommend you book a test drive; it will change your mind!
