The Icon Reimagined: Skoda Pays Tribute to its First Bestseller with a Digital Recreation
Skoda reinterprets the classic Skoda 100, its first model to exceed one million sales, through a bold, electric digital recreation.
Skoda is enjoying excellent health within the Volkswagen Group. It is currently the third best-selling car manufacturer in Europe. Its market share has reached 6.3% through October. Despite this success, the firm remembers its path during the communist era. Therefore, it has reinterpreted its model 100 in a modern key. This car was the first Skoda to reach one million sales.
Radical Design with Nods to the Past
The digital sedan is now electric, and its design adopts the brand’s Modern Solid language. Skoda exterior designer Martin Paclt resisted relying too heavily on retro solutions. For instance, the car lacks a rear window. Instead, it incorporates a curved body-colored panel. This panel includes a central fin that functions as an air intake. It also houses the third brake light.
Details Connecting the Classic with the Electric
Despite the radical change, the design preserves subtle nods to the classic 100. The designer has added discreet vents in the rear wheel arches. This is relevant even without a rear engine, as electric vehicles also require cooling. LED strips at the front and rear reference the original chrome trim and the engine vent, respectively. The charging port is now hidden under a fuel filler cap on the front wheel arch.

Dimensions Inspired by the New Era
The original Skoda 100 measured 4.16 meters long, making it a relatively small car. However, this digital recreation is based on the current Superb. Consequently, the new concept is considerably larger. The designer believed that short overhangs worked well. This makes sense with a dedicated electric vehicle platform. Furthermore, the EV architecture has allowed for the creation of two trunks.
An Advance for the Electric Octavia?
This reinterpretation was created solely for fun by the design team, after work hours. Regrettably, these are not indicative of future production models. The 100 model would not fit into the current lineup. Both the Octavia and the Superb are destined to become electric. In fact, the next generation of the Octavia was already previewed with the Vision O. This is an electric family car prototype. Paclt contributed to its design before the production model’s launch in the coming years.
