The Chinese Automotive Industry Launches Over Seven New Models Per Month: Global Record
This figure demonstrates an unprecedented capacity for product innovation and development globally. The rapid progress is driven by the continuous introduction of novelties, which is essential for gaining market share.
The Chinese automotive industry continues to show impressive dimensions and speed of evolution. Its figures, in terms of sales and number of available models, currently have no comparison. This evolution is a key parameter for understanding the situation of traditional automakers outside of China.
The progress of the Chinese automotive industry, both inside and outside its borders, is driven by the ability to continuously introduce new models. This dynamic is closely related to the growing global market share of Chinese manufacturers. Product innovation is fundamental for determining a manufacturer’s strength in the market.
China Leads the Launch of New Products
There is a vast universe of new cars worldwide, approximately between 1,750 and 1,800 different passenger car models. This list is constantly changing because many models are withdrawn and many new ones are introduced. This universe is becoming more varied thanks to the drive from Chinese brands.
This year, up to mid-November, Chinese manufacturers have introduced 78 new models. This means an average of a little over seven new Chinese vehicles per month. The result is notable when compared to what other manufacturers are doing. In the same period, Japanese producers were the closest with 32 new models. For their part, European manufacturers introduced 27 novelties. American manufacturers remained at 10.

Average Per Manufacturer and Strategy
China has more automotive brands than any other country. Therefore, it could be argued that maintaining such a high number of new releases is relatively simple for them. However, the comparison with Europe, Japan, the US, and Korea remains significant even when averaging the launches.
According to analyses, China is ranked first with an average of 4.1 new models per manufacturer. This is based on a group of 19 large companies. It is the highest result among the five main groups analyzed. Japan follows closely with an average of 4. The other groups show lower averages. Having a wider range does not automatically guarantee more sales. Nevertheless, the ability to innovate and keep public attention high is essential. This helps to survive and gain ground in the sector. This capability is one of the reasons behind the growing success of many Chinese manufacturers outside their country.
