Opel and Zaragoza: 40 Years of Automotive Passion Celebrated in the “Opel Love” Exhibition

By  |

The “Opel Love” exhibition, hosted at Zaragoza’s Mobility City, celebrates four decades of partnership between the German brand and Aragón with 25 historic gems brought directly from the Rüsselsheim museum.

To speak of Opel and Zaragoza is to recount a story of industrial success and emotional connection spanning more than four decades. Since the German manufacturer chose Figueruelas as the site of one of its most productive European plants, the bond between Opel and Aragón has brought prosperity, jobs, and technological advancement. The exhibition “Opel Love” is therefore much more than an event — it’s a tribute to the past, present, and future of a partnership that helped redefine mobility in Spain.

A Journey Through Opel’s Legacy: From the Lutzmann to the Manta GSe ElektroMOD

Set within the Mobility City of Zaragoza, perched atop the iconic Zaha Hadid Bridge over the Ebro River, the exhibition gathers 25 historic vehicles from Opel’s Rüsselsheim museum collection, including standouts such as the Opel Patent Motorwagen Lutzmann, the brand’s first automobile, and the Elektro GT of 1971, a visionary early electric prototype. Visitors can also admire the Manta GSe ElektroMOD (2021), a modern reinterpretation of a classic icon that blends design heritage with Opel’s forward-looking electric vision.

From Sewing Machines to the Iconic Corsa: The Evolution of a Symbol

Few realise that Opel began by manufacturing sewing machines, later moving on to bicycles and motorcycles before becoming one of the world’s most influential carmakers. “Opel Love” showcases this fascinating evolution with pieces such as the five-seat Quintuplet bicycle from 1895 and the ZR III racing bike from 1928, a nod to the era when Opel was a global leader in two-wheel innovation. The exhibit also includes the elegant Opel 4/8 HP “Doctorwagen” (1909) — the first affordable car for the middle class — and, of course, the legendary Opel Corsa, built in Figueruelas since 1982, with over 14 million units produced for markets around the world.

Looking Ahead: Electrification and Visionary Design

“Opel Love” doesn’t just celebrate the past — it also points to the future. The exhibition includes groundbreaking concept cars like the GT X Experimental (2018) and the new Corsa GSe Vision Gran Turismo, unveiled at the 2025 Munich IAA and showcased for the first time in Spain. This 100% electric concept reinterprets the Opel Compass Design philosophy with advanced aerodynamics — featuring a sculpted bonnet, active diffuser and wing — and proudly wears the GSe badge, a hallmark of high performance and innovation.

A Must-See Event for True Car Enthusiasts

Whether you’re passionate about automotive history, technology, or German engineering excellence, this exhibition is one not to be missed. Open to the public until March 2026, “Opel Love” is a celebration of innovation, design, and the pure emotion of driving. So, if you’re in Zaragoza or nearby, make sure to visit soon… and be quick as lightning — or as Opel would say, as fast as a Blitz.
