The new Boreal targets the top of the segment with more equipment, sharper design and a surprisingly competitive price.

The Renault Boreal 2026 arrives as the “premium” alternative to the long-awaited Dacia Bigster, with which it shares platform, philosophy and several mechanical components. However, Renault plays its hand by raising the bar in design, comfort and technology, creating an SUV meant to attract buyers who want something more refined without breaking the bank.

A more sophisticated, practical SUV with global ambitions

Although it retains the Bigster’s practical essence, the Boreal introduces its own styling and higher-quality materials. Measuring 4.56 metres, it sits squarely among rivals like the C5 Aircross, Kuga, Tucson, 2026 Sportage, MG HS, Peugeot 3008, Toyota RAV4 2026 and Tiguan, while offering a class-leading 586-litre boot, an outstanding figure even among mainstream competitors. The lineup is structured around the Evolution, Techno and Iconic trims, each with distinct exterior styling aimed at different customers.

In the entry-level trim –the Evolution, the most affordable– Renault proves that “affordable premium” is more than a marketing claim. This version features 100% LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, chrome accents, and black contrast mirrors, resulting in a presentation that hardly feels like a base model. Inside, it comes with wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, a raised centre console with a cooled compartment, Arkamys audio, digital instrumentation and a touchscreen multimedia system.

Where the Boreal really stands out is safety and driver assistance. Standard features include six airbags, adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go, lane-keeping assistance, autonomous emergency braking, fatigue detection, powered tailgate, rain and light sensors, plus a full traffic sign recognition suite. It’s a level of equipment rarely seen on a base version in this class.

Under the bonnet, the Boreal uses the well-known 1.3 TCe engine co-developed with Mercedes-Benz, here in Flex configuration, able to run on both petrol and ethanol. With 163 hp, 270 Nm and a six-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic, it delivers 0–100 km/h in 9.5 seconds, 6.2 seconds in 80–120 km/h, and a driving range of 680 km – solid numbers for a family-focused SUV built for long trips.

The Renault Boreal 2026 has already begun its international rollout. In markets like Brazil, prices start at €29,100 (Evolution), €32,300 (Techno) and €34,700 (Iconic). With these figures, Renault sends a clear message: if you want a large, practical SUV with a premium touch without spending a fortune… the Boreal wants to be your next car.
