2021 F-150 4X4 Supercrew Puts Tech in the Driving Seat

By  |

The F-150 4X4 Supercrew has to be amongst the best-selling vehicles in America, but even this all-time best seller isn’t immune to the now changing times. Over the past few years, consumers have been demanding more efficient vehicles, even in the now highly competitive truck space. The 2021 F-150 4X4 Supercrew is Ford’s answer to every fan’s call for more economy with their EcoBoost, along with a more conventional V6 and V8 engine option coupled with diesel engine variants.

While the most significant change to the 2021 F-150 4X4 Supercrew has to be the power train, the company has made other changes like a revised exterior and a radically modern interior. In many ways, the new F-150 4X4 Supercrew is Ford’s answer to the recently redesigned Ram. That’s why we were so eager to get our hands on the 2021 F-150 4X4 Supercrew and see if, in fact, we can feel the difference behind the wheel.

Familiar and Fresh at the Same Time

The new F-150, at first glance, looks familiar yet different and fresh at the same time. It is a tricky balance that many car manufacturers get wrong, and that leads to unhappy fans, but fortunately, Ford got the look right. The more squared-off look will sit well with most drivers; it is highlighted by the rather crisp-looking daytime running lights complimented by a large grill.

Walk over onto the back, and you’re greeted with a more chiseled and updated taillight, which stretches deeper into the fenders. However, we were surprised to learn that Ford offers 11 varying grille options, so the look changes remarkably depending on the trim you choose and how the truck was specked.

Performance

The 2021 F-150 4X4 Supercrew is more than adequate we’ll call it brisk for a large truck. Ford is offering six different engines, with the most notable being the new 3.5-liter PowerBoost full hybrid with superior outputs of 430 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque. The rest of the engine options are similar to what has been offered before and include a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 and a 5.0-liter V8. Another advantage to the hybrid is the availability of a new 7.2-kilowatt onboard generator.

Regardless of the model, the F-150 comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission. That’s one of the reasons why we think the torque on the F-150 4X4 Supercrew is so powerful, even more so than the outgoing model. However, transitioning between gears is smooth, easy, and, most of all, comfortable. There is plenty of grunt even when you switch over into 4×4 mode, which means dring through mud, and snow isn’t going to break a sweat.

Final Verdict

The 2021 F-150 4X4 Supercrew continues to retain the best pickup truck’s crown, and we forecast roaring sales throughout 2021 mainly because it is still one of the toughest trucks around. However, this time around, it looks more modern, more powerful, and feels more comfortable driving. The premium interior and the car-like comfort are two things that are going for the 14th generation F-150, and we think that Ford has done an excellent job of keeping fans happy with all the latest gadgets onboard while still not being a deal-breaker for purists.
