The New Mustang RTR Delivers Supercar Power for the Price of a Porsche 911

By  |

RTR has just unveiled the Mustang Spec 5, a wide-body halo car that pushes the pony car formula to insane levels. With over 870 horsepower under the hood and a starting price of $159,999, it’s positioned as one of the wildest Mustangs ever built–slotting right in the range of a Porsche 911.

Built on the Mustang GT with the Performance Package, the Spec 5 uses the familiar 5.0-liter V8 but adds serious hardware. A 3.0-liter Whipple supercharger, heavy-duty Race intercooler system, and Borla cat-back exhaust elevate output to more than 870 hp and 660 lb-ft of torque. That’s a gain of nearly 400 hp over the GT and even more power than Ford’s own GTD track weapon. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic, making it a true driver’s car.

On the chassis side, RTR fitted its high-performance Tactical suspension system, including 30-way adjustable dampers, height-adjustable springs, and beefy sway bars. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires wrap 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, while Brembo brakes with two-piece rotors and six-piston calipers handle stopping duties.

Aggressive Styling With Wide-Body Presence

The Spec 5 looks as extreme as it drives. A full wide-body kit adds custom fenders, bumper extensions, and composite side panels. Carbon fiber components like the front splitter, side skirts, and aero fins give it race-inspired flair. There’s also a massive rear wing, a ventilated hood, and illuminated grille, plus RTR graphics that separate it from any standard Mustang. Even the redesigned fuel cap–with billet aluminum arms and an integrated drainage system–shows RTR’s obsessive attention to detail.

Inside, the cabin is lightly upgraded but distinct. Recaro sports seats with suede and gray leather accents headline the interior, joined by RTR-branded floor mats, a serialized dashboard plaque signed by Vaughn Gittin Jr., and a unique teardrop shifter.

Limited Production, Exclusive Status

RTR will build just 50 units of the Mustang Spec 5 for the 2026 model year, ensuring exclusivity. While its $159,999 starting price may seem steep, it includes the base Mustang GT and positions the Spec 5 above rivals like the Shelby Super Snake. For muscle car purists and collectors, this is not just a Mustang–it’s a statement of power and rarity.
