Skoda has come a long way since the pre-Volkswagen era. Now Europe’s third best-selling automaker, with a 6.3% market share as of October, the company is arguably in the best shape of its 100-year history. However, Skoda has not forgotten its roots. Through the “Icons Get a Makeover” series, the brand has been transforming classic models into futuristic EV concepts, the latest being a homage to the Skoda 100/110, the first car in the company’s history to reach one million sales.

A bold reinterpretation of a classic

The new concept merges Skoda’s Modern Solid design language with playful innovation. Unlike the original, the rear-engine layout is gone, replaced by a body-colored curved panel with a central fin that functions as an air intake and houses the third brake light. Subtle nods to the classic 100 remain, including discreet rear-fender vents for cooling, LED light bars referencing the original chrome strip, and a front-fender fuel cap now hiding the charging port.

From small sedan to futuristic EV

While the original Skoda 100 measured only 163.6 inches (4,155 mm), its hypothetical EV successor is larger and built on the current-generation Superb platform. A short overhang complements the dedicated EV architecture, allowing for a dual-trunk layout with the rear cargo area positioned above the drivetrain. These design choices emphasize practicality while embracing a futuristic aesthetic that pushes the boundaries of traditional sedan styling.

Purely imaginative, purely fun

As with previous concepts in the “Icons Get a Makeover” series, this reinterpretation was created after office hours by Skoda designers purely for fun. While it is a thrilling vision, it is not indicative of a production model. With both the Octavia and Superb set to go electric, there is no space in today’s lineup for the 100 EV, but the concept celebrates Skoda’s heritage while exploring what a classic could look like in the future.

A playful look at automotive history

Through these digital exercises, Skoda proves that modernizing classic nameplates can be both creative and inspiring. The series offers a glimpse of what legacy automakers, including parent company Volkswagen, could explore to keep historical models alive in a fun, futuristic way–even if only on screen.
