The automotive world is buzzing again thanks to a machine that blends rarity, heritage and pure emotion: Paul Walker’s 2005 Ford GT is currently up for auction at Bring a Trailer, and bidding has already climbed to $562,000 with days still left on the clock. A figure that surprises no one, considering this is one of the most coveted American supercars of its era–now tied to one of the most beloved figures in car-themed cinema.

Engineering and heritage: what you’re truly paying for
Under its unmistakable bodywork lies a heart that any purist would admire: a supercharged 5.4-liter V8 producing 550 horsepower and 678 Nm of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed Ricardo manual transaxle. The listing notes that this unit belonged to Walker’s “Always Evolving Collection,” though its full provenance isn’t detailed. Still, its mechanical configuration preserves the purity that made the GT one of the most respected American sports cars of the 21st century.

Its true exclusivity, however, comes from the exterior: it is one of only 14 units finished in Mark IV Red without the racing stripes in 2005. The car remains almost entirely original, yet includes special details like Steve Saleen’s signature on one of the engine crossmembers. Dynamically, it features Penske aftermarket dampers, an Accufab throttle body, a tuned ECU, an upgraded exhaust, and ADV.1 double-spoke wheels (19″ front, 20″ rear) wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The sale also includes a second set of forged BBS wheels with Goodyear Eagle F1 tires.

Inside, the GT stays true to the factory’s intent with a blend of sportiness and originality: ebony leather upholstery, rubber floor mats, a McIntosh sound system, red brake calipers, air conditioning, keyless entry and push-button start. The car has covered just 3,701 miles (5,956 km), comes with a clean Carfax, and recently received a full service including fresh oil, spark plugs, fuel filter, battery, and MAF sensor.

Nearly 12 years have passed since Paul Walker’s tragic death, yet his legacy remains so powerful that any vehicle connected to him attracts global attention and staggering bids. It’s no surprise that many of his cars (including some featured in Fast & Furious) have reached extraordinary prices at auction. This Ford GT seems destined to follow that path… and perhaps even surpass it.
