2022 Mazda CX30 Premium – Now More Rugged Than Ever

By  |

The 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium is taller and slightly more spacious than the outgoing model and now snuggles up to the CX-50 and CX-5. Right off the bat, our first impressions of the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium were that it punched above its class, with a premium cabin and upscale appearance. It puts other upscale, subcompact luxury crossovers like the BMW X1 and Audi Q3 to shame.

While the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium directly competes with the likes of more premium brands, it is priced competitively, aligned with other mainstream vehicles like the Hyundai Kona and the Taos. So, is it worth upgrading? We answer that question in this review.

What’s New With the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium?

Well, for starters, the all-wheel drive is now standard across the entire CX-30 lineup in 2022, and they also introduced a Carbon Edition. A few select models come with roof rails and Platinum Quartz Metallic joints.

Generally, most people would lean in favor of the Select trim because it has more features, but the Premium trim, in our opinion, is probably the best choice for many. The 2.5-liter engine is standard across the entire lineup, and we are glad that is the case.

How Does The 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium Perform?

Excellent question because the 2.5-liter four-cylinder banger, producing 186 HP and paired with a six-speed shifter, is standard across the brand’s entire line. However, you can opt for a turbocharged 2.5-liter engine, which produces an insane 250 HP.

The 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium was as we expected, nimble and fast. You feel a hard push in your chest when flooring the vehicle, a feeling that we never thought possible driving a crossover. The steering feels crisp, and the fluid body movements are a pleasurable experience. We guarantee that most people who enjoy driving will love taking the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium on winding roads, mainly because it hugs the road, giving you complete control over every aspect of the vehicle.

Speaking of control, the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium goes from 0-60 mph in 8.1 seconds. A hair slower than the competition, but it does this with more comfort and space in the back, which we will get into below.

Cabin Features and Comfort

We love the CX-30’s Premium interior. It is well crafted and looks great. The infotainment system sprouts out from the center, like most other modern cars, and is controlled via a tactical rotary knob located on the center console.

Slightly underneath the infotainment system is a row of buttons that divined the lower and upper halves of the dash panels. Plus, buyers have the choice of choosing either a 12-speaker audio system or a less thrilling eight-speaker system. In addition, there is also the choice to upgrade to heated front seats.

Our Premium trim came with added goodies like leather upholstery, a power-operated liftgate, and other luxury features, which puts the CX-30 firmly in the territory of luxury brands like Mini Countryman and Lexus UX.

Speaking of luxury, the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium is also the most spacious SUV you can buy today.

Final Word

The 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium is one of the top competitors in this segment and one that has all the markings of a luxury brand vehicle but without the hefty price tag. If you are in the market for a crossover, don’t overlook the value of the 2022 Mazda CX30 Premium.
