2022 Mercedes Benz S500 4Matic – Still Makes A Great Statement
The S series by Mercedes has always been one of those vehicles you’d drive in to make a statement. Not only does it showcase style, elegance, and comfort, but it is a status symbol. Even though the bulk of the company’s sales come from the GLC SUVs, crossovers, and GLE, the S-Class is considered the crown jewel in the US.
The 2022 Mercedes Benz S500 has been updated, refreshed, and redone, which begs the question, how is it different? Does it do enough to merit an upgrade? That’s what we set out to answer in this review.
Excellent Exterior Design
While we wouldn’t go so far as to say that the 2022 Mercedes Benz S500’s design is revolutionary, it indeed continues to be elegant. The UFO-shaped edges and the large tires are part of a well-thought design aesthetic.
The front grille, like the rest of the vehicles by the company, has grown in size. Plus, the car is equipped with new cutting-edge tech, which powers everything from the lights to how the car handles on slippery roads.
The rear is more attractive with triangular taillights, like what we’ve seen on the A-Class. Overall, the clean body finish flows through the sides of the vehicle, with door handles that seem to be embedded into the car.
It is hard not to like what Mercedes has done with the S500; while some may think it is more contemporary, others will enjoy the elegant design language that does not go over the top.
On-the-Road Performance
The 2022 Mercedes Benz S500 comes with a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder engine packing 429 horses of power. The powertrain is supplemented by a 48-volt hybrid system referred to by the company as EQ boost. It then pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission, which is an all-wheel-drive system in the case of the 4Matic version.
Driving the 2022 Mercedes Benz S500 is, as you’d imagine, a pleasurable experience. However, it feels more comfortable than the outgoing model, despite sporting the same E-Active Body Control feature and air suspension mechanics. The all-wheel steering system makes the vehicle far easier to maneuver through tight spaces like in a crowded parking lot compared to previous models. Most people will find that this is enough reason for them to upgrade.
Interior and Comfort
The 2022 Mercedes Benz S500 has screens littering the cabin. You’ve got five screens in addition to a giant 12.3-inch touch screen in the front. The good news is that all the screens can be turned off, or you can turn off the ones that are distracting you.
The enhanced heads-up display on the front shows navigation directions which is a lot like augmented reality. So, you see arrows turning recommending you turn left or right in real-time, as you would in a video game. This makes driving in unfamiliar territory easier because you’re not taking your eyes off the road as much to look at the map.
In terms of build quality, the 2022 Mercedes Benz S500 feels upscale. It almost feels like a limousine, with back support, soft seats, and excellent soundproofing.
The seats in the rear have slightly more headroom, and legroom, along with adjustable reclining seats, a massage function, and heating elements. Trust us, sitting in the back has never felt this good in an S class!
Final Word
The 2022 Mercedes Benz S500, with its contemporary design and a large selection of features, does not fail to impress. If anything, we’d say it offers just enough to entice owners of previous models to upgrade.
