Renault Clio VI: We Drove the French Hybrid Utility Car
The new French utility car features a more personal design and notable efficiency, with an official average consumption of only 3.9 liters per 100 km.
The aesthetic transformation of this sixth generation is the most significant aspect of the new French model. In fact, it completely truncates the continuous line of previous generations. Now, the silhouette of the new Clio captures all attention, although its proportions remain similar to the previous ones.
At the front, the design is totally distinct, featuring a split grille and daytime running lights representing half of the brand’s rhombus. The rear also follows a disruptive trend, showcasing an integrated upper spoiler, a compact design tailgate, and split taillights. However, Renault continues to use the CMF-B platform, the same as in the fifth generation. This translates into exterior measurements of 4.12 meters in length.
Modern Interior and Ergonomic Solutions
The cabin presents familiar changes by adopting elements from its siblings, such as the 5 E-TECH and the Symbioz. The digital instrumentation, up to 10 inches, is combined with the 10-inch Open R Link multimedia system screen. The flattened multifunction steering wheel completes a modern ambiance.
Despite this, not all users will find their ideal driving position right away. Nevertheless, the adjustment of the elements, such as the dashboard and central console, feels well-executed, with no annoying noises or creaks. In addition, the presence of direct access buttons for the most common functions is a positive highlight.
Engine Range and Dynamic Behavior
The mechanical lineup eliminates diesel variants, focusing on two gasoline options and one hybrid. The entry-level TCe115 version offers 115 hp, based on a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The superior version is the E-Tech 160 Full Hybrid, which uses a new 1.8-liter naturally aspirated block and a 1.4 kWh battery.
In practice, the 160 hp hybrid version proved to be an agile and thrifty vehicle during the test drive. The multimode automatic gearbox adapts perfectly to every situation, efficiently managing the combustion engine and the two electric motors. Finally, the suspension gained a point in firmness, a detail that favors spirited driving when negotiating linked curves.

Trims and Multimedia Technology
Renault offers three trims: Evolution, Techno, and Esprit Alpine. The Techno version adds full LED headlights, automatic climate control, and the Arkamys audio system with 6 speakers. The most complete trim, Esprit Alpine, includes almost all available equipment.
Regarding technology, the Clio benefits from the Google ecosystem. This offers total integration, from navigation with Google Maps to infotainment with Google Assistant. Thus, interaction with the mobile phone is much simpler and more intuitive.
