2022 Genesis G70 RWD 3.3T Sport Prestige – The Korean Head Turner
Many vehicle enthusiasts in the US have been writing off Korean vehicles as sub-quality budget brands. However, the Genesis G70 RWD 3.3 Sport Prestige, is hell-bent on changing that perception. The sports sedan market is hot and perhaps only second to the compact SUV/crossover segment. Genesis is Hyundai’s luxury brand, with the G70 Sports sedan one of their flagship offerings.
Despite how premium this vehicle is (something we’ll get into later), Hyundai has been able to keep the price competitive. The 2022 Genesis is available in six trims, with the 3.3T being the top-of-the-line model.
The G70 impressed us in more ways than one, and that’s because it caught us off guard. The new 3.3T models are more powerful, comfortable, and perform better than their predecessors for a highly competitive price.
Exterior Impressions
One of the first things to grab our attention was how very premium and upmarket the G70 appeared as it turned the corner into our driveway. It is a glamorous car and certainly does not reflect the budget price range of under $60k. However, styling is similar to the G80 and the GV80 SUV, both of which continue to stun onlookers.
The redesigned exterior gives the vehicle more road presence, with the stunning shield-shaped front grille that flows flush into the lights on both the front and rear of the G70. The front fender also has a set of new vents, which gives it a greater sense of agility and power, making it a head-turner.
Excellent quality On A Budget
Genesis has proven that you don’t have to break the bank to buy a vehicle that looks and feels premium. The G70, drives well too, with the 3.3T sporting a 3.3L V6 turbocharged engine, capable of producing 376 lb-ft of torque and 365-hp of power. During our testing, it went from 0-60mph in just 4.7 seconds, highly impressive for a vehicle that isn’t supposed to be a track car. It is faster than the Audi A4 and the C300, only beaten by the BMW 3-series, which is exponentially more expensive.
The G70 matches the BMW in terms of how well it shifts. The automatic 8-speed transmission is super responsive and of excellent quality, dare we say as good as the BMW!
Super Comfortable On The Inside
The interior feels just as premium as the exterior and the drive quality. Fine leather across the sides, with the option of Nappa leather ensuring that no surface feels plasticky or hard. There was no sign of cheap or hard plastic on the dashboard, which is impressive for a vehicle in this price range.
Then there is the 10.3” infotainment system, which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The sound quality is immersive, with excellent low end and crisp high end from the unknown brand of tweeters.
Final Word
The 2022 Genesis G70 RWD 3.3T Sport Prestige is a home run! This is, in our opinion, the breakthrough vehicle Hyundai needs to start making a name for itself in the premium segment.
